From The President: My Word for the Year

Jared Porter, APR, PRSA President

 Not long ago, a friend posted her word for the year on social media. I love this idea. It’s a powerful way to articulate intention and focus for the year; a North Star to guide actions and keep one’s course steady and true. My own word for 2026 is Enhance. As president of PRSA Nashville, this word guides my vision and priorities for our chapter.

PRSA Nashville’s board and committees are working hard to enhance the member experience and deliver value. The top priority, driven by our 2025 member survey: more frequent professional development programming on topics you asked for, including in-person touchpoints and virtual learning opportunities.

I hope you’ll join us as we learn together. Watch for announcements in our newsletter, social media, and website. (One program is coming up soon!

Other focus areas I’m excited about:

  • Our APR Ready to Roll program and the largest cohort of accreditation candidates in recent memory;
  • An enriching, growth-focused  program in the works for local new and young professionals (more to come on that);
  • Giving ethics more visibility throughout the year; and
  • More member-oriented community touchpoints on social media.
  • PLUS: This year, we’ll celebrate our 40th anniversary Parthenon Awards (watch for our call for entries this spring), conduct a comprehensive review of our chapter bylaws, and develop our 2027 to 2029 strategic plan.

I encourage you to actively participate in our chapter! Be part of our community. It’s strengthened through your involvement. And, by all means, reach out if you have a suggestion or idea. I’d love to hear it. Email me at [email protected]
