Job Description

The Senior Account Manager (SAM) is a leadership role focused on managing client relationships, executing strategic PR initiatives and mentoring junior team members. This position ensures that PR efforts align with business objectives and deliver measurable results. The ideal individual has an entrepreneurial spirit, a passion for excellence and excels in strategic thinking.

Key priorities include client retention, operational efficiency and team leadership, with additional responsibilities in supporting new business development and identifying opportunities for account growth. While SAMs help uncover expansion opportunities, they do not directly own revenue growth targets.

This role requires expertise in media relations, content development and strategic planning, along with a strong ability to guide both clients and team members. Annual responsibilities and KPIs are reviewed quarterly to track progress, provide feedback and support professional development.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Proactive Client Engagement: Maintain 2-3 strategic touchpoints per client per quarter (ex: sharing relevant industry news or proactive check-ins after missed calls) to demonstrate initiative and address potential concerns early.
  • Client Success: Achieve all clients’ defined PR goals, such as media placements, content targets and award nominations.
  • Issue Resolution: Address and resolve client concerns promptly and effectively within 48 hours or less.
  • On-Time Deliverables: Ensure all client-facing work (press releases, media outreach, strategic plans) is completed and delivered on time.
  • Account Growth: Identify and recommend at least 3 upsell or cross-sell opportunities, helping to drive a 10%+ annual revenue increase from existing clients.
  • Mentorship & Team Development: Actively mentor and coach junior team members, providing regular feedback and growth opportunities.
  • Team Onboarding & Support: Assist in onboarding new junior team members by providing guidance, answering key questions and ensuring full integration into workflows within their first 30 days.
  • New Business Contribution: Lead discussions and presentations during assessment proposals. Support new client onboarding and seamless account transitions into active engagements.
  • Client Leadership: Take full (100%) ownership or guidance of client meetings, ensuring clear and actionable strategic direction for junior team members.
  • External Leadership: Hold an annual leadership role (ex: board/committee membership, leadership program) in a professional, community or business organization (PRSA, Chamber of Commerce, nonprofit board, etc.).
  • Innovation & Growth: Continuously seek and implement new ways to improve workflows, client relationships, and media strategies through digital tools, emerging technologies and new media connections.
