Sarah Sauls, APR

How long have you been a PRSA member?

I’ve been a member of PRSA Nashville for 10 years, and it’s become a steady, meaningful part of my professional life.

What do you value about your PRSA membership?

I’m grateful for the chance to connect with other PR pros and learn from people outside my own industry. It’s easy to get tunnel vision in your day‑to‑day, and I always walk away from PRSA conversations with new ideas and perspectives. I’m also participating in our chapter’s mentorship program, which has been incredibly meaningful. Having someone who’s been in my shoes share their experience and guidance has been such a gift.

What is your current professional role and what does your day-to-day look like?

I’m a Senior Public Relations Manager at Gresham Smith, a national architecture and engineering firm. A big part of my role is taking complex, technical work and turning it into stories that highlight how we’re helping create healthier, more vibrant communities across the country. No two days are the same, and I like it that way! Some days I’m setting strategy and building communications plans, and others I’m rolling up my sleeves to interview subject‑matter experts and write content. It’s a mix of big‑picture thinking and hands‑on storytelling, which is exactly where I thrive.

You serve on the PRSA Ethics Committee. What interests you about highlighting ethics in PR for our members?

Ethics is something we don’t always think about until we suddenly find ourselves in a gray area and have to make a tough call. I’m passionate about helping our members keep ethics front‑of‑mind because our work directly impacts reputations and trust. And with AI evolving so quickly, it’s becoming even more important to stay thoughtful and intentional about how we communicate. I feel fortunate to serve alongside Aileen Katcher, who has championed ethics in our chapter for many years and brings such depth and perspective to these conversations.

Do you have a specific interest area in public relations/communications that you feel professionally passionate about?

I’m especially passionate about digital communications — social, web, video, email, all of it. I love meeting people where they already are and finding creative ways to tell stories that feel accessible. Digital gives us so many tools to do that well, and I enjoy thinking strategically about how each channel can support the larger narrative. It’s a space that’s always evolving, and that constant change keeps me curious and energized!

And finally, just for fun: what’s your favorite way to stay cool in Nashville during a summer heat wave?

The Nashville heat is no joke! I wish I had a glamorous answer, but honestly? I’m an indoor-cat in the heat of the summer, happily tucked away with AC, a good book, and an iced coffee in hand.
